New report on Ilisu Project and Hasankeyf in Turkish published

A comprehensive on the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project, one of the most controversial dam projects worldwide, has been published by the Hasankeyf Coordination (Initiative to Keep Hasankeyf Alive is part of it) has been published in Turkish language.

Report on the current status of the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project and the counter campaigns

Since its initiation the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project is highly controversial both at the ground at the Tigris in the Kurdistan region of the Republic of Turkey and in whole basin up to the Mesopotamian Marshes in South Iraq. Recently the Turkish government announced recently that on 10th June 2019 it will start filling the Ilisu Dam reservoir which is nearing completion. This paper gives an overview about the expected grave social, cultural and ecological impacts and the ongoing counter struggles at local, regional and international level which have the hope to stop it.

New report on the Ilisu Project

On September 11, 2017 the Initiative to Keep Hasankeyf Alive has published a new report on the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Project. It includes the general description and the current situation of the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Powerplant Project. It gives the basics for interested people working politically on the Ilisu Project, one of the most controversial dams worldwide as it would lead to grave social, cultural and ecological impacts in a larger region. Hasankeyf fulfills 9 of 10 criteria of UNESCO

Fact finding report about the rock fall in Hasankeyf on 13th July 2010 and possible risks

On 13th July 2010 a big rock mass broke out from the bedrock in approximately 100 m east of the small palace at the access region to the rock castle in the antique city Hasankeyf and one person died as a result. After the incident with the joint decision of Governorship of the province Batman, District and Police directorate, the two roads, which goes to the castle from the old bazaar/city and to riverside on the southern side of the Tigris River with many restaurants, have been closed to human and vehicle traffic. Through this decision the most parts of the historical Hasankeyf city can not be accessed any more by public and tourists.
