Action at UNESCO-WHC Session for Hasankeyf and Iraqi Marshes

Today an action has been done in front of the annual conference opening of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) of UNESCO in Bonn/Germany. The participants demanded to list Hasankeyf (Turkish-Kurdistan) and the Iraqi Marshes on the World Heritage List and to stop the Ilisu Dam at the Tigris River.

On Sunday, the 31st May 2015, the Initiative to Keep Hasankeyf Alive has organized a protest meeting in Hasankeyf against a new declaration about the resettlement of the inhabitants in the town Hasankeyf, published on May 5. Today the Initiative to Keep Hasankeyf Alive has sent a catalogue of questions to the candidates of the four big political parties in five provinces (Batman, Siirt, Diyarbakir, Mardin and Sirnak) which would be affected by the destructive Ilisu Dam. The candidates have been requested to answer until the 2nd of June.
